an idea

I've had an idea. It may be ingenious, or it may be the stupidest thing I've ever thought. Why do I need a big fancy schmancy wedding? How wrong would it be for me and the Schmoopy to be married with only our closest family in attendance? With the economy being a load of crap, I would feel bad about asking anyone to be a bridesmaid for me. Dang, I know I have expensive taste. The BMs dresses I've perused that I like are in the $250-300 range. The dresses I've looked at for myself are anywhere between $1500-3000. With all that, people having to travel, getting hotel rooms, and what not....I'd rather get a new car. Much more practical than throwing money away for one day of pomp and circumstance. What's wrong with my favorite priest, my family, and his family getting together some afternoon in a pretty park for a little 15 minute ceremony? It would still be done by a priest, under the auspices of God, but without a lot of hassle. I'm sure I'll change my mind on this numerous times. Ideas?

it is a great idea! I had a choice: a big wedding or a down payment on a house... hmmm let me think about it... so we bought a farm! keep it simple! Don't buy the hype! Good luck!

That´s how I wanna do it! Me and my man on our horses and with some of the closest family and a priest. We can have a fun party for our friends later, then we don´t have to be broke just to get married..

I, for one, agree with what you WERE thinking. I dunno whether you're still thinking it. It is common-sense and practical. It allows for spending on other things that you want, as you point out. In any case, it's your and your betrothed's decision. Good luck with it and whatever you decide!

My suggestion is to keep it simple. You're right - the money could be used for other things. Make a compromise so you don't have to miss all of the things you wanted out of a wedding but you don't want to be in debt going into the marriage. Wish you much success!
